Halmahera monitor (Varanus yuwonoi)
The Halmahera monitor (Varanus yuwonoi) was only described in 1998. This is a rare, giant (up to 2.5 meters) species endemic to the highlands of Halmahera island part of the Moluccas, Indonesia.
